Kids get life skills and fitness tests
By Tebogo Senosha
Altus Sport with assistance from students of the Department of
Sport and Leisure Studies of the University of Pretoria tested over 800 primary school kids from
various townships in Tshwane recently.
The tests were to establish a baseline on life and sport skills, as well
as fitness levels. The event was mainly made possible by FIFA FFH and Women Win
from Holland.
Tests on the same kids will again be conducted at the end of the year in
order to measure the impact of Altus Sport’s programmes implemented by its
youth sport leaders on the kids.
The Altus team has presented numerous sport workshops and events which
include sport and recreation management, facilitator’s training, circuit
training, generic sport coaching, mass sport participation, total fitness,
gymnasium training and Olympic education.
Liana Laubscher, Director of
Altus Sport, praised the positive manner on which the kids sacrificed their
Saturday and enthusiastically participated in the program.
“Fitness and health should be the main priority in kids’ lives as it
will help them perform better especially at school,” said Laubscher.
Dr Engela van der Klashorst of
the University of Pretoria said it was a pleasure to reach out to the kids and
that Altus Sport actually created a “laboratory” for further research in this
respect, further elaborating that: “This is a great initiative and it will
benefit these kids enormously. We are grateful that we are part of this
magnificent initiative”.
Altus Sport aims to promote personal development, physical activity and
literacy among youth through sports.
